For the third year in a row, KSD has a student in the winner's circle for the Gallaudet national "Yes I Can" contest. This year's winner is Nathan Jalali. He won honorable mention in the ages 9-14 category for an essay he wrote about the struggles of living in two worlds as a hard-of-hearing person. Nathan won $100, and he will have his story published in the next edition of the magazine, Celebrate.
Let's
give him a warm pat on the back. He is an excellent writer, and we want
him to enjoy success in that realm as well as acquire ASL. There were
over 600 entries nationally, so this is quite a feat. Let's continue
KSD's tradition of producing winners by encouraging more students to
participate in next year's contest.
FYI: Last
year Kylei Brooks won 2nd in the ASL contest. Two years ago, Kyle
Kuschmider and Jeremy Stockman won honorable mentions with their
essays.
